Genetic Improvement of Nutrition Quality and Drought and Salinity Tolerance of North African Barely
Summary
The major aim of this project is to generate new knowledge on barley and expand in north africa its area of cultivation and improve its yiled and nutritional quality under conditions constrained by salt and drought stresses. A holistic regional approach based on resources evaluation, biochemical, physiological and molecular characterisation will be initiated to the benefit of conventional breeding and would release new valuable cultivars. Moreover Biotechnological approaches as tissue culture, mutagenesis and transgenesis will be developed under the laboratory scale for developing competency and analysis of the adequacy of the handeled biological material with such technologies.
