NABNet Objectives

The overall objectives of NABNet are to:

1. Provide focal points for the North African scientific community to support the activities of national, regional and continental entities addressing, human health priorities, agriculture-related problems and food needs for reducing poverty, protecting environment, creating wealth and promoting Africa’s development, though bringing improved and marketable products and initiating processes that benefit to North African community.

2. Create and strengthen human resources in biosciences and related disciplines in North Africa to promote scientific excellence, though bringing together a critical mass of scientists drawn from national, regional and international institutions in modern facilities where they can undertake cutting edge research.

3. Increase access to affordable, world-class research facilities within north Africa. This will serve as a platform to forge partnerships with skilled international biosciences laboratories and will stimulate economic entities responsible for product development and delivery, within north Africa and globally.

4. Produce, manage and disseminate bioscience information and knowledge relevant to North Africa ’s need. This will facilitate access to advice and training on intellectual property, biosafety and other regulatory issues and new developments in biosciences to protect the environment, conserve and valorize the biodiversity.

5. Strengthen the role of women and young people in Biotechnological activities relating to agriculture, health, food and environment sectors.

6. Attract additional investments for biosciences in and for North Africa from governments, the private sector, and regional and international bodies.
